Burn Injury

Kentucky Burn Injury Lawyer

What many people do not realize is that a serious burn injury can have more lasting damage than what appears on the surface. People who have suffered a severe second- or third-degree burn have the outward appearance of the burn - tissue damage and charring, sometimes down to the bone. However, at John G. Rice, P.L.C., we recognize that in addition to the excruciating pain and visible damage associated with a burn injury, there can be extensive underlying damage that may not be initially visible.

  • Skin damage: Burn injury victims who have suffered severe second- or third-degree burns will likely require some form of skin graft surgery to replace the burnt surface. However, skin has different characteristics on different areas of the body. Skin may have different sensitivity, texture, appearance, or flexibility. Victims will require physical therapy to enhance usability and range of motion after the surgery and may have to live with some of the new characteristics of the replacement skin, never recovering the level of sensation and usability they had before their injury.
  • Tissue and nerve damage: Severe burn injuries cause more than just damage to the skin. It is common, particularly in third-degree burns, for deep tissue, muscle, and even nerves to suffer damage. Nerve damage can never be adequately restored. Therefore, the burn injury victim may have to live with lost sensation, lost mobility and a reduced functionality of the affected area for the rest of his or her life.

Prior to helping clients as a personal injury lawyer, I spent 11 years as a vocational rehabilitation specialist, working to help the seriously injured recover. My experience helping burn victims recover and return to the workforce gives me a clear understanding of what burn injury victims go through and what sort of physical damage and emotional damage their bodies have suffered. I also understand the hard work they will need to recover. In addition, I recognize the pain, embarrassment, and anxiety victims face in the future - living a life with the permanent damage of disfigurement, permanent scars, and other effects.

While I cannot repair the physical damage that you have suffered due to a burn injury or remove your psychological scars, I can seek recourse through the legal system. I investigate the cause of the burn injury incident - whether it is a car accident, a defective product, or other factor. I evaluate the options for moving forward and pursue compensation through available liability claims - car insurance claims, premises liability claims, product liability claims, or other negligence claims. I handle a number of different types of burn injury cases including:

  • Thermal burns
  • Chemical burns
  • Electrical burns
  • Fire burns
  • Scalding injuries
  • Other serious burns, such as those caused by equipment, machinery or even styling products

Whether you have suffered a serious burn from being scalded in an unsupervised heath therapy treatment, or due to an explosion or car accident, our law firm can help.
